How to change the Evaportor in 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Without wanting to push off a cliff

Change the evaporator core in 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited is not too difficult if you take your time and are not frustrated. This has been an engine of 5.2 liters.

Many fasteners are hidden and almost certain electrical connectors have locking mechanisms to prevent the loss of vibration.

I was lucky and could work for this in my free time because I have a car. It took me 3 evenings after work to get everything apart, remove the heater / AC box and make it apart and clean. I also went ahead and replaced the heater core, which is a project on time, I hope.

Once I had the correct parts of the parts, I could get in the zone of heating and plumbing in an evening.

I waited until I could get my boyfriend to his reservoir of nitrogen and vacuum pump more pressure to allow the system to check for leaks and then pull a vacuum before to the dashboard, in no need to go to all the problems of the installation of the dashboard only to find a link somewhere leak.

The scoreboard was put in place the next evening, and buttoned with all connectors and trim. Then, the key is turned and returned to life! Who Hoo!

Here are the steps I took to remove everything.

Inside the Jeep

Ø Place the two seats as far as you can and tilted back too.

Under the hood:

Ø Remove the battery and secure the lead accidentally re-connection you are climbing around in the engine compartment.

Ø Assuming that there was a leak in the heart (or why would you do that?) The AC system must be empty of Freon.

Ø Drain coolant

Ø Remove the reservoir coolant overflow.

Ø Remove the PCM, its ups and 3 - 8 mm screws. 2 is out, but the 3rd broken mine I had to swing out of the way. It turned out to be a PITA, but I have done this work.

Ø Next unscrew the bolt holding the hair clip in place.

Ø NOTE: Even if the system was unloaded please wear your safety goggles and use caution when opening the line!

Ø Remove the AC lines. Connect the lines and openings to keep the oil flowing all over you and your driveway. You will need two sizes disconnect special tools. I bought a whole selection from Advance Auto for about 15 bucks. Do not try with the tools you have something frustrated and bust.

Ø NOTE: The pipes for heating core crush super easy! May it be better to remove the pipes to the machine and pull the heater box and the pipes and if you do not plan to replace the basic device. I did not take account of the mine and crushed trying to break the pipes in bulk.

Ø Drag pressure clamp type rear of the firewall and outside the pipes or you can not get the box out.

Ø There are 5 - 7 / 16 to remove the nuts holding the heater box against the firewall. The one behind the other, the PCM is hidden because there is a bundle of son tied to it, 2 near the heater hoses and one behind the distributor cap. This May you want to remove the intake snorkel to get the nut.

Ø Block the wheels so that the jeep will not move as we need to remove the equipment.

Can now retrieve within the Jeep!

v Put the contact and put the shifter down to do outside the track.

v Remove the A pillar trim on both sides, which corresponds to the base speaker against the windshield, watching the light sensor! Twist to remove. Then, the center trim and burled wood trim look if so equipped.

v Remove the right (passenger) kick panel.

v The passenger side remove all those pesky electrical outlet connected to the fuse block. They are all connected and are simply asked to keep going in the wrong place.

It is against a bolt over the fuse box and the 13 mm connector if I remember must be removed to release the panel.

v Pull back the carpet near the center of the dashboard. There is a half-inch pipe to be here in bulk.

v Remove the antenna connector and unplug it if you can access at this time. There are also a couple of different connectors as part of this side of the scoreboard as well. Take your time and look around. I also removed the glove box to be able to better look around there. Just a couple of screws are all that keeps it in place.

v On the pilots to remove the plastic trim under the steering column.

v Remove the block of knees under the dash and the metal in this corset.

v Remove the lower dashboard trim 2 screws and a clip.

v behind the corner trim is a hole with a bolt back in it. Remove the bolt 13 mm, you will find in and around the center console.

v center console to remove the carpet substantive dashboard area. There is a metal plate with 2 bolts (13 mm) on the floor and 2 of the bottom of the scoreboard.

v Remove the ashtray and the screw behind the panel.

v Unplug the brake light. Tilt the steering wheel and remove the tilt lever. Remove the 2 screws holding the plastic around the column. Once you have those out of the way the wiring connectors multi function switch and nothing else in this country. The multi function has a bolt through the center of it to hold it in place.

V Remove the bolts below the column to keep the scoreboard.

v Do not turn the wheel with the disconnected I heard that internal damage to the steering mechanism may occur.

v Remove the nut at the top of the dashboard under which the speaker / grill Defrost was deleted.

v I also removed all the screws from the pad and the scoreboard, he took both. I learned later that it was a necessary step but not a waste as I thought that the treatment by myself dashboard easier. There were more places for you to maneuver it and to facilitate the move.

v You want May to cover the console shifter with a thick cover

as the panel is based on it as you exit.

v SLOWLY begin moving the scoreboard to look back and no connectors you go. Having cleared the scoreboard removed and place it somewhere on the road.

v here in May will be a good time for an adult beverage, if you're so inclined.

v You can now see the heater / AC box. You can see your prey!

v There may be one or two 10 mm bolts holding it left in place with a connector to the heater fan. The connector son red and black I think.

v It is also the AC drain output, which passes through the firewall. He is probably jammed up with RTV.

v now, if you do not miss something box heater should be free with some gentle persuasion.

Once you have it, and on the garage floor or bench turned upside down and begin to remove the screws holding half of the box together. A screw in some of the ducts. Remove the duct by pressing on the breakdown of connections. Once the box is outside the evaporator slides. The heating base is held in place by a screw on top of the house as I can remember.

Now, if you have not received it and took a torch frustration to your vehicle, you must be ready to put all them together again.

Remember to take your time and if you start to feel rushed or stressed up!

I hope this guide has been helpful.
